Which detector for a beginner?

Hi. I would like to get my husband a metal detector for Christmas. I sought advice from a friend who has done metal detecting for some time, and he recommended a Nokta as we are beginners. I really don't know where to start. Any help would be much appreciated. My maximum budget if about £250. Many thanks

Thank you so much. It is a pound sign, though it does look strange. I'm in the UK. We are surrounded by fields where we live so it's perfect

I was going to buy from eBay or Amazon so thank you. I've taken your advice and found a website for a company called Crawfords and they have a nokta simplex bt that comes with a free starter pack for £289.95 (pounds)
