I have Plantar fasciitis in both feet so I am am thinking on with a wide rim on the top might be something I need. but really I just want a good, light, not super expensive digging tool.
I did some digging (pun intended) because I'm looking myself. I am now not too sure about the Dr. Otek shovel I mentioned earlier--it got some reviews that gave me pause.
In the meantime, I picked one up (18") at Home Despot for $15. I'll probably regret not spending the extra $5 for the 28" version. 😄
Good question. What's your definition of, "not super expensive"?
I've got some similar issues with foot pain. FWIW, just in digging around the garden/yard I've learned good footwear can be as effective a wide shovel rim.
I find the options out there can be overwhelming, and I've got an abundance of whelm already! 😋
My personal preference is for something with adjustable length and either a "D" or "T" handle (have some arthritis in hands).
The ones i prefer are more expensive like Predator Tools and Grave DIgger. A lighter cheaper option may be the root slayer. It's not as durible though.
In the forest we use a Tractor Supply shovel that is designed to cut roots and is low cost. My favorite beach scoop is from KellyCo.
CHOW!

Extreme Scoops are a pure joy to work with. Eats up the beach like a breeze...shells, rocks...it finds a way without alot of effort.
Are your doing the woods with alot of roots or parks?

I'm also wondering...
Do serrated edges really matter vs. "sharpened" or smooth edges?
Otek? Suggestions? 🤔
My current set up is root slayer.
They have been good, but I will be upgrading soon to predator tools.
