Did a little looking on the forum, and didn't see an answer to this, sorry if it turns out to be a duplicate post.
I have been looking at getting my first detector, and did the typical google search for 'best detector 2023' and found the 'your best digs' video that convinces you to get the Garrett 250. I decided that was probably the right beginner choice. Then I came across Metal Detecting NYC's video about that video, and was grateful to find an actual detectorist with advice. Your video recommends the Nokta Simplex+.
My question: Is getting a used Simplex+ from ebay better than getting one of the new Simplex BT? Price is similar, wondering if newer models have better technology, or if the Simplex+ is still the best choice as a first machine?
I live in Colorado and will be doing minimal if any salt water detecting.
Thanks again for answering, your content has been great to consume.
Just a couple of observations from recently getting my own first detector ...
IDK if you're just looking at new, or considering used. Anything used won't come with a warranty. This may not matter to some; I look at it as the extra money buys me a little insurance--especially when dealing with something highly technical that I'm new to and don't understand yet.
New or used, some of the best advice ever given to me was, "Get the best one you can afford." Lots of people outgrow their first purchases and move up. Not as many say, "This was too advanced--I want to move down."
If you can, try before you buy. I see about 9 MD dealers in CO. If they're reputable, they shouldn't steer you wrong because they'll want your continued/repeat business.
