Looking to upgrade my detector from my old Simplex+ to one of the above two detectors, I hunt a mixture of locations from beach to parks and fields.Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated, Many thanks.Martin.
I'm biased; I settled on a Dēus II., and I have no regrets. It's my first (and only) detector, and I love it. 😍
That said, my final picks came down to Dēus II, Manticore, and Nokta Makro Legend.
They're all reviewed & rated here (on this site) so peruse away! (Especially Merrill's Thoughts) 👍🏼
IMO, you can't go wrong with any of them, so it may come down to aesthetics and/or what your gut tells you.
IDK if it's a factor for you, but the Legend (3.0 lbs.) is ~50%heavier than the Dēus II (2.08 lbs.)
One major (IMO) difference is that the Dēus II is completely wireless. I thought that was cool & all, but I didn't appreciate it as much as I do now after swinging it for 6+ months. I use the remote (not the puck), but not on the stalk (which reduces weight by a few more ounces); I hold it in my off-hand, on my belt, around my neck... I'm learning to hunt more by sound/tone anyway, so I find it much more convenient/flexible that way.
Pairing the MI-6 Pinpointer with it is also nice, especially if you're hunting in an area where you'd rather keep a low profile (not make a lot of noise) but more importantly (IMO) you can also access the features & settings on the pinpointer through the Dēus II remote or WS6 puck. 😎
Changing coils on the fly is (IMO) another huge boon. All XP coils come with lower shafts, so popping one off and another on (and pairing them) takes seconds instead of minutes, and no cable/wire to mess with.
Thats awesome to hear, thanks for the reply. One other question rufus, what size coils do you run? I was thinking of starting with either the 11" or the 13"x11" at first. Thanks again rufus.
I would (did) start with the 9". If you hunt any trashy areas, the smaller coil will help get down between the trash. It'll still reach plenty deep.
I added the 13" x 11". It's the same width as the 11", so the 11" seemed superfluous (no advantage).
I use it more in open fields where there isn't much junk, or when doing a quick scan in a yard to get an idea of what might be down there.
I probably use the 9" 4-5 times as much/often as the 13" x 11"

Good luck whichever you choose! 😀
