- Ask Merrill & Friends!Hello, all. I live in Houston Texas and most of the parks and schools in the Houston area are illegal to detect and the beaches around Galveston are pounded pretty heavily. We are planning a trip to New York City this summer, and I have been binge-watching the Metal Detecting NYC YouTube channel. Thanks to Merrill for all the great content. This will be my first time in New York, my second time in New England, and my first time taking a detector up north to an older part of the country. What parks and beaches would be best to detect if I only have a day or 2 to devote to detecting? I've seen many mentions of Prospect Park and "Magic Park". Thank you all for your consideration.Like
- General Discussion: DetectorsHi everyone from John in Northern California. I'm hooked on watching Louis finding silver. Lol Question: I've owned two detectors for many years. A Whites MXT and a Whites Spectra V3i. The Spectra is a beast and I love using it. My problem is Whites is now out of business and trying to get support or replacement parts moving forward is something I'm not looking forward to. Therefore I'm thinking of selling it. My question is which metal detector is closest to the Spectra V3i that I should buy as a replacement? I've taken it to the beach and it does well but I can't see needing a detector I can emerse in salt or fresh water. Coil in fresh water yes, but not the control unit. I'm looking for a multi frequency detector that has great depth in highly mineralized ground and good separation. Most of my detecting lately is coin and jewelry. Any advise you could give me on an equivalent replacement, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks, JohnLike
